CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP
Mount Ida, which won the 2007 state title, defeated Hampton 27-26 Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium to capture its second 2A state championship. Mount Ida did not attempt a pass while junior fullback Cade Helms carried 19 times for 195 yards. Mount Ida's defense forced two turnovers, while Hampton had four touchdowns negated by penalties. Hampton was flagged 14 times for 108 yards. Helms also led Mount Ida in tackles with nine (seven solo).

Top-ranked Mount Ida opened the season ranked No. 4 in the preseason Hooten's Arkansas Football bookazine. No. 2 Hampton opened at No. 20 after not fielding a varsity team in 2015 and before getting key transfers Monta' Thomas and Kevin Childs from Hermitage. Preseason No. 18 Hackett climbed to No. 10. Seven teams in the preseason Top 10 finish in the Top 10. Preseason No. 9 Magnet Cove ends up at No. 32.
