HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK

Corning (6-3) at MOUNTAIN VIEW (9-0)

Defense travels, and Corning packed its defense on the way to Subiaco Academy last Friday. The Bobcats got an interception and fumble recovery from Jakob Cox in the first half to build a 16-point lead going into the break. Cox added 135 yards and 3 TDs on 14 touches. Seth Smith completed 13 passes for 223 yards and 4 TDs while adding 57 yards and 1 TD on the ground.

Mountain View swarmed the Cutter Morning Star Eagles 56-6. Rush Sullivan led the defense with 15 tackles and 1 sack. Senior QB Drew Shelton accounted for 6 TDs on offense and 1 on defense (70-yard pick-6).

WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)

Parkers Chapel (4-5) at GENOA CENTRAL (5-3) Genoa Central beat Parkers Chapel 44-22 in Week 4, but Parkers Chapel found its stride in the back half of the season, collecting wins over Fountain Lake and Cedar Ridge and scoring 62 on Cutter Morning Star.  Genoa’s offense rushed for 306 yards against the Rose Bud Ramblers in the rain. If Chapel has success, it will be through the air.

Spring Hill (7-3) at WOODLAWN (5-3) Winner takes home the 3 seed, loser travels to Rector in the first round of the playoffs. A Mountain Pine loss could boost both teams higher. Both teams are averaging more than 250 yards rushing per game.

MOUNTAIN PINE (5-3) at Dermott (3-5) Mountain Pine is locked in as the 2 seed going into the playoffs after falling to Strong 28-12. The Red Devils look to hone their defense against an explosive Dermott team before facing ICC in the playoffs. The Red Devils defense is led by Adonis Delaney, who is averaging 11 tackles per game this season.

Midland (1-6) at AUGUSTA (2-4) Winner takes home the 4 seed and earns a trip to Strong next week. Midland is looking to make consecutive trips to the playoffs while Augusta is looking for its first trip since 2021.
