HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 6 Bald Knob at No. 1 Rivercrest
Bald Knob scores a league-best 46 points per game, doing so without hurting itself, Rivercrest coach Kelly Chandler says. "They're very well-coached and we can't rely on them giving us anything." Sophomore quarterback Cordell Crisp has completed 119 of 218 passes for 1,956 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions this fall. Senior running back Steven Merrell paces the Bulldogs with 63 carries for 413 yards and five TDs. Senior Jordan Johnston and junior Tyler Gilmore (9.2 yards per carry) also help in the backfield, rushing for a combined 538 yards and seven scores. Bald Knob's ground game allows Crisp time to find one of several playmakers at receiver, including Johnston (team-high 29 catches for 346 yards and six TDs) and senior Terrell Woods (23 catches for 555 yards and 10 TDs). The Bulldogs feature an experienced defense led by senior linebacker DiAndre Woods (team-high 63 tackles). Earle handed Bald Knob its only loss this year (34-21, Week 4).

Bald Knob coach Paul Johnston is primarily concerned with Rivercrest's speed on both sides of the ball. "We're faster than we were last year, but not as fast as them." The Colts beat Earle 49-40 last week with a flurry of big plays in the first half. Junior linebacker Trevor Gregory (44 tackles in 2010) recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Colt's first score. Less than two minutes later, junior Robert Cooney blocked the first of two punts which senior Tevin Howard returned 30 yards for a TD. Earle trailed by just two points with less than six minutes left in the game, but senior QB Demoine Brown's 36-yard TD pass to Cooney with 2:16 remaining sealed the win for the Colts. Brown has accounted for 953 yards offense and 15 TDs this season. Senior playmaker Terrence Banks, who ran 95 yards for a TD at Earle, paces the Colts with 12 catches for 337 yards and four TDs, while averaging 12.5 yards per carry. Senior RB Earl Byrd has 57 carries for 431 yards and nine TDs. Senior safety Michael Wright and sophomore LB Clayton Carlton (56 stops) lead the defense with 61 tackles and 10 tackles for loss, respectively.
