LITTLE ROCK - Valley View starting linebacker Kannon Jones has been selected by hootens.com as the First Community Bank Scholar Athlete of the Week in Arkansas.

Jones (4.083 GPA) made 11 tackles, two pass breakups and recovered a fumble Week 1 in a 20-6 win over Gosnell. Hootens.com first noticed Jones last November when he made nine tackles against Morrilton in the first round of the playoffs. Valley View finished the regular-season 10-0 in 2019 and won the 5A East conference title.

More than 6,000 boys play high school football in the state. Jones is one of only 13 selected for the prestigious award presented by First Community.

Bank representatives David Daniel, Shena Sims, Brian Emison and president Allen Williams recently surprised Jones with the announcement before a Valley View practice. Earlier this season, students at Vilonia, Harding Academy (Searcy) and Batesville were presented the award by First Community.

Jones plans to attend pharmacy school and own a business. A video featuring his story is on hootens.com.
Valley View plays host to Bald Knob this Friday.

First Community Bank is a locally owned and operated bank with 27 locations in Arkansas and Missouri.
