HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
North LR at Longview, Texas: Class 5A Longview lost its all-conference quarterback and its season opener 41-8 last week. Longview inside linebacker DeMarkus Lathan (5-9, 190) and defensive back Corey Bartley (5-8, 165) lead eight returning starters on arguably Texas' best defense. Lathan, named the state's defensive player of the year as a junior, tackled 188 ball carriers a year ago. Longview returned just two starters on offense but now returning dual-threat quarterback Bivins Caraway (6-0, 200; 4.58 speed), who has offers from Texas Tech, New Mexico and Navy, is not expected to play due to a knee injury. North LR counters with Arkansas' most talented team featuring Alabama running back commit Altee Tenpenny (6-0, 215). Tenpenny rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns in the first half of last week's 42-7 win over smaller school Lake Hamilton. North LR's defensive interior Kenny Howard (6-3, 315), Javian Williams (6-1, 295) and Gerald Watson (6-1, 290) intimidate.

WEEK 2 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
7A/6A CENTRAL
Jonesboro at CONWAY (15): Conway won last year at Jonesboro 49-35. Conway athlete Brandon Cox (committed to Arkansas State) and running back Jeff Anderson both rushed for more than 100 yards in last week's 21-3 win at Bryant. Jonesboro gutted Class 5A Greene County Tech 69-30 in its opener. Senior Martin Stafford (5-9, 190) led Jonesboro with 189 yards rushing and an 86-yard kick return.
El Dorado at FS SOUTHSIDE (6): Both team's mad about opening losses. El Dorado, winner of the past three 6A state titles, brings a versatile attack with quarterback Lucas Reed and running back Marque Burris. Southside linebacker Matt Schenk made two interceptions and a fumble recovery in last week's 20-19 loss at Rogers Heritage.
FS Northside at ROGERS HERITAGE (7): Northside likely starts five sophomores on offense this week and six on defense. Heritage standout junior quarterback Josh Qualls (shoulder) hopes to return after helping the War Eagles shock FS Southside 20-19 last week. Heritage's big offensive line and improved linebacker corps should help it double last year's win total this week.

7A/6A EAST
North LR at LONGVIEW, TEXAS (7): Game of the Week.
LR Catholic at CABOT (7): Cabot continues to clobber little neighbor Jacksonville (28-0 last week) in season openers. LR Catholic trailed talented LR Central by only a touchdown late last week.
LR Central at BRYANT (3): Bryant has beaten LR Central five years in a row, outscoring the Tigers 73-16 the past three seasons.
WEST MEMPHIS (12) at Blytheville: West Memphis trailed Class 4A Ashdown 17-14 in the second quarter last week before winning 41-17.

7A/6A SOUTH
LR Central at BRYANT (3): Bryant has beaten LR Central five years in a row, outscoring the Tigers 73-16 the past three seasons.

7A/6A WEST
Bentonville at BROKEN ARROW, OKLA. (1): Bentonville's defense may be the state's best. It created three turnovers in last week's 24-7 win over Kansas City, (Mo.) Rockhurst. Tiger juniors Jack Kraus (6-5, 242) and Chase Morris (6-2, 225) are the state's top tight end tandem. Kraus already has offers from Illinois and Utah State. Broken Arrow, better overall than Rockhurst, has five players with college scholarship offers. Broken Arrow lost to Tulsa Union 23-22 in last year's Oklahoma big school state championship.
Fayetteville at JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (1): Fayetteville lost last week to the best team it will face (Memphis University School ). But Jeff City's option attack, with the coach's son at QB, will test Fayetteville's run defense.
Poteau, Okla. at VAN BUREN (7): Poteau beat Durant, (Okla.) 28-21 last Thursday while Alma axed Van Buren 47-21.
SPRINGDALE HAR-BER (1) at Columbia (Mo.) Rockbridge: Har-Ber bounces back from last week's loss at Webb City, Mo. Har-Ber's six solid defensive linemen
Tahlequah, Okla. at ROGERS (7): Rogers rolled at Class 6A Mountain Home 37-13 while the Tahlequah Tigers lost their opener at Fort Gibson (Okla.) 40-20. Rogers High has close to 500 more students than Tahlequah.
Tulsa Central, Okla. at SPRINGDALE (14): Springdale's smart non-conference scheduling provides Bulldogs much needed confidence.
