HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 13 Paris at No. 10 Perryville

Paris has won more games this year than it has over the past three seasons. Experience, a stingy defense that allows nine points per game and a well-balanced running attack are why Paris is playing for at least a share of the 4-3A title. Paris, ranked sixth in the preseason coaches' poll, averages more than 300 yards rushing per game with each running back getting at least six touches per game. The Eagles allowed 31 ppg a year ago but have held all but one opponent to single digits this year, including two shutouts. Paris has not won a conference crown since sharing the 4-2A West title with Ozark in 1990. Perryville, ranked fifth by league coaches this summer, also runs the ball effectively with senior RBs Royce McClain and Tyler McAnally. The Mustang defense held Lamar to just 82 yards of offense in last week's 27-7 win over the Warriors. Perryville beat Paris 42-13 in 2008.

WEEK 9 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
1-3A

Greenland at CEDARVILLE (10): Greenland averages 12 ppg and suffered its fourth shutout of the year last week in a 13- 0 loss to Lavaca. Cedarville beat Elkins 35-14 last week and keeps its bid alive for the league's fourth and final playoff spot.
CHARLESTON (21) at Elkins: Charleston senior QB Derrick Haney has passed for 1,044 yards and 17 TDs and completes 66 percent of his passes, while senior FB Ryan McDonald has rushed for 914 yards (8.3 yards per carry) and 11 TDs. Charleston allows 10.5 ppg; it beat Lincoln 35-14 last week. After losing 35-14 at Cedarville last week, Elkins is still in position to earn the No. 4 playoff seed.
Mountainburg at LAVACA (14): Mountainburg averages a league-worst 10 ppg and lost to Mansfield 21-0 last week. Lavaca continues to hold on to its third-place spot after beating Greenland 13-0 a week ago.
MANSFIELD (21) at Lincoln: Mansfield maintains its No. 2 spot and looks to stay healthy after beating Mountainburg 21-0 last week. Lincoln junior RB Ezequiel Hernandez ran 14 and 7 yards for TDs in last week's 35-14 loss at Charleston.

2-3A
BARTON (17) at Riverview: Barton senior FB Pat Anderson ran for 131 yards and two TDs in last week's 42-32 win over Mayflower. Riverview loses its third straight and hopes of earning a playoff spot.
Brinkley at HARDING ACADEMY (28): Harding Academy junior QB Seth Keese completes 69 percent of his passes and has accounted for 2,408 yards of offense and 32 TDs. Harding Academy allows 14 ppg; it beat Riverview 34-6 last week. Brinkley, third in the preseason coaches' poll, lost 20-6 at Episcopal last week and will not see postseason play for the seventh straight year.
England at MAYFLOWER (35): England averages a league-low 15 ppg; it lost 30-16 to Rose Bud last week. Mayflower senior QB Jordan Dycus passed for 130 yards and two TDs in last week's 42-32 loss at Barton. The Eagles trailed by four points early in the fourth quarter.
EPISCOPAL (17) at Rose Bud: Episcopal wins its fourth consecutive game and could play for the No. 3 spot Week 10 when it hosts No. 22 Mayflower. The Wildcats lost five fumbles and managed just one offensive TD in last week's 20-6 win over Brinkley. Sophomore DB Jaylen Lacy returned an interception 37 yards for a TD to preserve the win. Rose Bud senior RB Jimmy Smith ran for 175 yards and two TDs in last week's 30-16 win at England.

3-3A
CAVE CITY (3) at Hoxie: Cave City lost 26-7 at Harrisburg last week; its only score came on a 47-yard TD pass from senior QB Dalton Carpenter to senior RB Thamail Morgan. Hoxie's playoff hopes are still alive after losing to Earle 30-22 last week. If the Mustangs win out, they could end up in third place.
RIVERCREST (45) at Corning: Rivercrest junior QB Demoine Brown has accounted for 847 yards of total offense and 10 TDs, while junior RB/LB Earl Byrd averages 7.8 yards per carry and leads the team with 13 tackles for loss. Harrisburg at EARLE (1): Harrisburg junior QB Zach Davis completed eight passes for 194 yards and two TDs and ran for 32 yards and a TD in last week's 26-7 win over Cave City. Earle beat Hoxie 30-22 last week but trailed the Mustangs by two scores in the second quarter. Of the top four teams in the league, the Bulldogs have the toughest road to the playoffs; they finish the regular season at Cave City next week.
PIGGOTT (6) at Manila: Piggott earns its first league victory. Mohawk junior RB Alex Samples ran for two TDs in last week's 41-14 loss at Rivercrest. Manila senior RB Steven Green carried the ball nine times for 154 yards and three TDs, while senior WR Spencer Cain caught three passes for 89 yards and two TDs in last week's 41-0 win at Corning.

4-3A
Atkins at LAMAR (30): Atkins sophomore RB Trey Bennett returned a kickoff for a TD in last week's 47-6 loss at Paris. The Red Devils are out of playoff contention. Lamar senior RB Casey Kinsey ran 15 yards for a TD in last week's 27-7 loss at Perryville but was hobbling and ineffective in the second half. The Warriors still can earn a share of the league title.
GREEN FOREST (24) at Marshall:  Green Forest averages 17 ppg, 10 ppg less than it did last year. It beat Mountain View 12-10 last week.  Marshall allows a Class 3A-high 44 ppg; it lost 34-0 at Yellville-Summit last week.
Mountain View at YELLVILLE-SUMMIT (14): Mountain View allows 36 ppg; it lost 12-10 at Green Forest last week. Yellville-Summit does not look past Mountain View and ahead to next week's game at Green Forest that will likely decide the final playoff spot.
PARIS (3) at Perryville: See 3A Game of the Week.

5-3A
Arkansas Baptist at BAUXITE (17): Arkansas Baptist lost 42-6 to Fountain Lake last week and likely will not reach the postseason. Bismarck at FOUNTAIN LAKE (35): Bismarck loses its sixth straight game; it allows 32 ppg. Fountain Lake junior QB David Gray has accounted for 911 yards of total offense and nine TDs, while junior RB Mark Makin has rushed 135 times for 1,351 yards and 19 TDs. The Cobras beat Arkansas Baptist 42-6 last week.
JESSIEVILLE (7) at Centerpoint: Jessieville lost 28-7 to Magnet Cove last week, but led early on a 35-yard TD run by senior FB Orlando Sierra. The Lions have earned the last playoff spot as the No. 5 seed from the 5-3A. Centerpoint remains winless after losing 33-20 last week at Glen Rose.
GLEN ROSE (3) at Magnet Cove: Glen Rose senior QB Ethan Holicer completed 15 of 23 passes for 176 yards and two TDs, while junior RB Steven Kehner ran 17 times for 169 yards and caught four passes for 69 yards and scored three TDs in last week's 33-20 win over Centerpoint.  Magnet Cove can position itself for a third-place finish with a win this week. Panther senior DE Ernest Van Horn recovered a blocked punt in the end zone, and sophomore RB Jeff Pinkston ran 22 yards for a TD in last week's 28-7 win at Jessieville.

7-3A
Camden Harmony Grove at PRESCOTT (7): Harmony Grove sits in the No. 3 spot after its 26-7 win over Parkers Chapel last week. Prescott junior WR Ke'Andrae Ballance averages 40 yards per punt return, including a 63-yard return for a TD in last week's 41-0 win over Drew Central.
DREW CENTRAL (28) at Fouke: Drew Central earns its second conference win after losing 41-0 last week at Prescott. Fouke (21 ppg in 2008) has scored seven points in 2009; it lost 34-0 at Gurdon last week.
Gurdon at LAFAYETTE COUNTY (14): Gurdon scored more points in last week's 34-0 win over Fouke than it did in its first six games of the season (31). Lafayette County wins its first game in five weeks; it lost 49-6 at Rison last week.
RISON (17) at Parkers Chapel: Rison sophomore RB Raphael "Rock" Caldwell surpassed 1,200 rushing yards for the season last week when he ran for more than 200 yards in a win over Lafayette County. No. 4 Rison has blocked five punts in the past four games, and Caldwell blocked three of them. Rison senior linemen Justin Wilson, Cody Keaton, Robert Cummings, Hunter Taylor and Zach Crouse are playing well. Parkers Chapel fell to fourth place in the league after its 26-7 loss at Harmony Grove, but the Trojans have earned their first playoff berth in school history. Parkers Chapel speedy sophomore Shavonte Evans, who missed the past three weeks with an injury, should be ready to play this week.
