HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 12 Murfreesboro at No. 8 Mineral Springs

These rivals battle for a share (with Spring Hill) of the 7-2A lead. Mineral Springs all-league QB Shawn Richardson runs behind a huge and veteran offensive line anchored by senior tackles Kevin Heard (6-0, 300) and Dante Maxwell (6-0, 260). Mineral Springs' team speed on defense allows it to recover from mistakes. The Hornets shut out Mount Ida 18-0 and have allowed just 9.5 points per game. Richardson, Mineral's top cover cornerback, likely draws Murfreesboro leading receiver Garrett Gills (29 receptions, 319 yards, 7 TDs) Friday night. Gills (235 yards rushing) averages 27 yards per kickoff return and 15 yards per punt return. Murfreesboro senior QB Marc McRae has completed 55 of 107 passes for 701 yards and 10 TDs with four INTs. Gills and fellow linebacker Drew Cox pace the defense with 55 tackles apiece.

LAST WEEK
Hootens.com correctly predicted 18 of 22 (82 percent) games involving Class 2A teams. Hootens.com is 117-27 (81 percent) for the season.

WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread.)
3-2A

Cedar Ridge at MCCRORY (35): McCrory's 15 seniors might just sweep the 3-2A. That will get the Jaguars a first-round playoff bye and a probable quarterfinal date with the 8-2A champion and top-ranked Bearden.
CROSS COUNTY (22) at Rector: Defections and injuries have left preseason favorite Cross County at 1-4 and fighting for a playoff berth.
E. Poinsett County at SALEM (2): Salem's defense did enough to win last week at Walnut Ridge but the offense committed two turnovers.
Walnut Ridge at MARKED TREE (5): Marked Tree's gotta have this one to stay in the playoff picture. Walnut Ridge's Logan Gaither and Bennett Dudley caught one TD pass and intercepted one pass apiece last week in the 12-7 win over Salem.

4-2A
UNION CHRISTIAN (33) at W. Yell County: Union Christian led No. 17 Mountain Pine 13-7 in the third quarter before the talented but inconsistent Red Devils (three turnovers; 100 yards in penalties) ripped off 28 unanswered points to win 35-13.
Foreman at MAGAZINE (19): Magazine picks up non-conference victory. Magazine should win the 4-2A and a playoff game for the first time in school history.
Quitman at J.C. WESTSIDE (15): Westside lost to Hackett 26-16 last week when it gave up 13 fourth-quarter points.
HACKETT (2) at Bigelow: Bigelow managed just 36 yards last week in a 27-6 loss to Two Rivers. Hackett sophomore RB Dakota McBride ran for 140 yards and three TDs in a 26-16 win over J.C. Westside.

5-2A
Conway Christian at MOUNTAIN PINE (6): Union Christian led No. 17 Mountain Pine 13-7 in the third quarter before the talented but inconsistent Red Devils (three turnovers, 100 yards in penalties) ripped off 28 unanswered points to win 35-13. Adam Ragland and Bates Isom combined for 211 yards and three TDs in a 44-19 win over Quitman.
DANVILLE (36) at Lutheran: Danville sophomore RB Jaylon Ester racks up more yards in Little Rock.
TWO RIVERS (20) at Cutter M. Star: Two Rivers will line up sophomore Blake Noakes at QB, tailback and receiver. Noakes and senior running mate, Clay Damon, accounted for 260 rushing yards in a 27-6 win over Bigelow.
HACKETT (4) at Bigelow: Two Rivers not known for its defense but it just held Bigelow to 36 total yards of offense. Hackett sophomore RB Dakota McBride ran for 140 yards and three TDs in a 26-16 win over J.C. Westside.

6-2A
DES ARC (35) at Palestine-Wheatley: Des Arc open last week, won't get tested this week.
HAZEN (45) at Hughes: Hazen took a first step toward league title with a win Week 4 at Des Arc. Hazen plays host to Clarendon Week 7 and to Carlisle Week 10. The 6-2A winner does not have an easy playoff draw, likely meeting a talented team from the 8-2A in the first and second round.
Marvell at CLARENDON (15): Marvell stunned Hughes 28-0 last week. Clarendon is not Hughes.
Carlisle at WOODLAWN (3): A hard-hitting non-conference game that Carlisle pulled out 29-20 last year. Senior fullback Davy Earnest paces the Woodlawn Wishbone attack. Junior wingback Blake Perkins sparks Carlisle's Multiple offense.

7-2A
Horatio at DIERKS (6): On paper, not much difference in these two struggling teams. Advantage goes to the program with a winning tradition.
SPRING HILL (15) at Mount Ida: Spring Hill rolling after losing at 3A Bauxite Week 3. Spring Hill scorched Dierks 56-7 last week. Mount Ida, playing many sophomores, will be salty again in 2010 and 2011.
Murfreesboro at MINERAL SPRINGS (6): See 2A Game of the Week. Mineral Springs reversed the score of a preseason scrimmage by beating the DeQueen JV 27-0 last Saturday.
Foreman at MAGAZINE (16): Magazine running away with the five-team 4-2A. Foreman ended an 18-game losing streak Week 3 by beating Fouke. Foreman's next best chance to win comes Week 10 at Horatio.

8-2A
Hampton at BEARDEN (21): Top-ranked Bearden knocked off Junction City 14-12 last week with defense, holding the potent Dragons to 5 yards per rushing attempt. Junction City's defense held Bearden to just 70 rushing yards, but Bearden QB DeFonte Lowe completed six of seven passes for 114 yards and two TDs.
Hermitage at NORPHLET (10): Norphlet must forget the fourth-quarter mistakes (two interceptions) and penalties at Hampton in a 21-18 loss.
JUNCTION CITY (38) at Smackover: At least Smackover didn't have to play Junction City on the Monday after JC lost its first game in 18 outings.
STRONG (42) at Dermott: Strong picked up a key 14-6 win last week over Smackover despite only 21 first-half yards.
