Union Christian Academy hires Chris Smith as new AD and head football coach

It is with great pleasure that Union Christian Academy’s School Board and Administrative Leadership Team announces the selection of Chris Smith as their new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.

Having coached football at Blinn College and Kilgore College, Chris comes to Union Christian with a wealth of knowledge gained both from his degree in Sports Management and from his experience coaching at the nation’s top junior college football programs. Chris and his wife Mindy are both originally from Northwest Arkansas and are excited to be moving back home.

Coach Smith will arrive within the next few days and will begin preparing for spring football practices and the summer off-season training schedule. He will also serve as UCA Athletic Director, taking over the administration of all athletic teams, staff, & student-athletes.

Chris graduated from Charleston High School in 2002. During his high school career playing for the Tigers, he was a 3-Year Letterman and earned All-Conference & All-State honors as a defensive & offensive lineman. As a Senior, Chris was selected as the Conference Outstanding Offensive & Defensive Lineman and was named to several Arkansas Media All-Star Teams statewide. He was also a 4-Year Letterman, All-Conference, & All-State baseball player in high school.

He received a scholarship from Bacone College in Muskogee, OK where he played 4 seasons for the Warriors. He was a 3 year starter on the defensive line and finished his career as the starting center for the 2006 Warrior offensive line. He also served as one of the Warrior Football Team Captains in 2006.

Coach Smith began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Bacone College, coaching Running Backs in 2007. He also assisted with Special Teams and with the strength & conditioning program at Bacone. In 2008 & 2009, he spent 2 seasons at Blinn College, in Brenham, TX, coaching Running Backs & Tight Ends on teams that won 2 SWJCFC Conference Championships and the 2009 NJCAA National Championship at the Citizens Bank Bowl. He also handled all offensive signal calling for the Blinn no-huddle offense and assisted with all phases of Special Teams.

He comes to UCA from Kilgore College in Kilgore, TX, where he served as Co-Offensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, & Running Backs Coach for 2 seasons from 2010 to present. He handled all offensive play-calling for the Kilgore spread offense. He also assisted with all phases of Special Teams as well as the off-season strength & conditioning program.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Bacone College.

Chris has been married for 3 years to his wife Mindy. His parents are Bryan and Dusty Smith, and he has one sister Kayla.

The School Board and the Administrative Leadership Team wishes to recognize the tremendously positive and difficult work of the coach search committee led by Booster Club President, Dr. Rick Massengale. Their tireless efforts have been incredibly helpful in this process. We are grateful to them for all their work and continued commitment to excellence in Union Christian Athletics.
