GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 2 McGehee at No. 5 Hoxie
McGehee remains alive in its bid to win the school’s eighth state championship after routing Melbourne last week 68-28. McGehee’s last state title came in 1999. McGehee senior fullback Channing Woodson rushed for 286 yards and three TDs last week. Senior quarterback Sam Polite scored three TDs while running for 74 yards and passing for 61, while senior RB Jody Easter rushed for 87 yards and two TDs. Senior WR A.J. Jordan caught a 9-yard TD pass from Polite. Both teams are No. 1 playoff seeds, but unbeaten Hoxie gets to host this quarterfinal game because it’s at the top of the bracket. Hoxie coach Tom Sears called last week’s 42-0 win over Cedarville his team’s most complete game, and the Mustangs are healthy for a run at the school’s first state title. Senior QB Cade Forrester completed eight of 10 passes last week for 229 yards and three TDs, while running for 104 yards and a TD. Junior WR Kayden Glenn caught four passes for 169 yards and three TDs. Senior RB Seth Brooks ran for 66 yards and a TD. Senior MLB Jace Benesch logged 16 tackles and two interceptions. Watch extended highlights of McGehee’s 47-22 win over Dewitt earlier this year.
