STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Foreman junior quarterback Kyren Batey ran for 211 yards and two touchdowns and blocked a field goal in the Gators' 24-21 victory over Mount Ida. Foreman ended Mount Ida's 21-game winning streak and captured its first state title. Farm Bureau Awards 2A Coach of the Year Mark King implemented Ken Wheaton's evolving Flexbone at Foreman in 2016 and moved the 4.3 burner Batey to quarterback this season. Batey rushed for 2,049 yards (13 yards per carry) and 34 TDs in 2017. Mount Ida whipped Foreman 36-7 Week 7, a loss King said was "the best thing that could have happened to this bunch. We were feeling a little too good, too complacent. From that point forward, we were extremely focused." Farm Bureau Insurance Awards 2A Defensive Player of the Year finalist Logan Lindsey recorded nine tackles for Foreman. For Mount Ida, Farm Bureau Insurance Awards 2A Defensive Player of the Year winner Cade Helms posted a team-high seven stops, while running for 79 yards and a TD.

ABOUT THE RANKINGS
Until Friday night, Conway Christian and Camden Harmony Grove had played Mount Ida closer in losses than then-No. 4 Foreman. Foreman ends up on top of Class 2A by handing Mount Ida its first loss in 22 games in the state title game.. Foreman opened the season ranked No. 19 and Mount Ida at No. 1. Preseason No. 2 Rison ends up at No. 8, No. 3 Harmony Grove at No. 4 and No. 4 Danville at No. 6. Bearden. Hampton, Des Arc, McCrory, Conway Christian and Cross County rounded out the preseason Top 10.
