2A STATE TITLE GAME
DANVILLE (4) vs. Magazine: This is a rematch of a Week 5 game that Magazine won 28-24 to practically wrap up the 4-2A title. Danville committed six turnovers, and Magazine insiders say it didn't play that well. Danville QB Mike Jiles worked in the secondary in the second half, and the Danville defense held the Rattlers to 45 yards after intermission. Both teams are playing better weekly. Danville fumbled four times at Bearden last week, but lost only one.

Magazine whipped Magnet Cove 55-30 last week to advance to its first state championship game. Magazine employs an ultra-quick defense that allows just 12 points per game, and its starters have allowed even fewer than that. Magazine's first-team defense held Carlisle to 143 yards and six points two weeks ago in a 41-20 victory. Junior LB Josh Dority (4.6 speed) paces the Rattlers with 153 tackles, including seven sacks. Dority (three blocked punts in 2010) has recorded 51 tackles in three playoffs wins over Strong, Carlisle and Magnet Cove. Junior CB Cory Chambers has intercepted nine passes and eight pass breakups, and he leads the Rattlers in receiving with 684 yards and seven TDs. Junior QB Ryan Chambers has completed 50 percent of his passes for 1,122 yards and 18 TDs. Ryan hit six of nine attempts last week for 175 yards and two TDs against Magnet Cove. Ryan Chambers (7.6 ypc) burned Carlisle for 166 yards on 10 carries. He rushed 18 times last week for 141 yards, including a 61-yard TD, vs. Magnet Cove. He has rushed for 1,307 yards (7.6 ypc) and 12 TDs this season. Senior fullback John Terry has rushed for 588 and 11 TDs. Senior Chang Yang (4-11, 125) has run for 367 yards, while twin Long Yang (10 ypc) has rushed for 456 yards.

Danville beat Bearden 20-14 last week to advance to its fifth championship game in school history. Danville lost the 2002 title game to Harding Academy 29-26. Danville won state titles in 1971, 1974 and 1980. Danville senior end Trey Bailey (6-0, 200) paces the Little John defense with 16 sacks and more than 100 tackles. Bailey terrorized Mineral Springs two weeks ago in a 35-14 victory with 12 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Passing teams that do not double-team Bailey pay for it in QB pressures and sacks. Danville held explosive Bearden to a just 246 yards and 11 first downs. Danville shackled Mineral Springs super sophomore tailback Rashad Williams (2,305 yards in 2010) to 83 yards on 22 attempts. The Little Johns are explosive on offense with junior RBs Sean Tyra (808 yards, 13 TDs), Blake Noakes (654 yards, 6 TDs), Jaylen Ester (656 yards, 11 TDs) and Dadrian Ester (550 tandem yards), senior leading receiver Mike Mims (more than 550 yards, 7 TDs) and senior place-kicker Ulises Gutierrez (11 of 18 FGs in 2010). Gutierrez kicked field goals of 42 and 37 yards at Bearden. Noakes has returned six punts for TDs this fall.
