GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 2A No. 1 England vs. No. 7 Hamburg

The second night of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic features a battle of the Lions in Pine Bluff.
England opens as the No. 1 team in Class 2A after winning 13 games last year and advancing to the semifinals. Senior all-state quarterback Brayden Brazeal passed for 3,046 yards and 42 TDs last year, with just two interceptions, while all-conference running back Malik Coleman ran for almost 900 yards and 12 scores. Senior tight end/defensive end B.J. Thompson owns multiple Division I offers.
No. 7 Hamburg won 26 games the past three seasons. Lions senior all-conference QB Stetson Selby passed for almost 1,600 yards and 20 TDs in 2015. The Lion linemen performed well in summer workouts, third-year coach Cecil Ray Cossey says. Only two starters return from a defense that gave up 18 points per game last year.

LAST YEAR
Hootens.com correctly predicted 271 of 333 games (81 percent) last year.

WEEK 1 PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread)
1-4A
OZARK (1) at Gravette: Gravette drops longtime Week 1 opponent Pottsville for another 4-4A member. Ozark has won just seven games since finishing as 2012 state runner-up. Ozark relies on its defensive line early in 2016. Gravette's defense carries it this fall with senior linebacker Bret Callahan and junior tackle Bailey Soule'.
Decatur at BERRYVILLE (21): Decatur decided to play after 21 players reported for August workouts. Berryville has beaten Decatur the past two seasons by a combined 70-19. Versatile senior Jacob Graham takes snaps at QB and running back.
GENTRY (7) at Lavaca: Lavaca has won eight consecutive non conference games since losing to Prairie Grove Week 1, 2014. Gentry's expanded offense showcases junior QB Jon Faulkenberry (1,251 yards passing, 539 yards rushing last year).
Green Forest at HUNTSVILLE (4): Former assistant Randy Barnhill succeeds Tommy Tice at Huntsville. The Eagles have won 14 games since 2011, with six of them against Class 3A Elkins and Green Forest.
Westville, Ok. at LINCOLN (2): Westville whipped Lincoln by 30 points last season, but the Wolves improved late in the season, advancing to the playoffs. Lincoln All-1-4A QB Harrison Swayne had almost 2,300 yards and 20 TDs in 2015.
Booneville at PEA RIDGE (10): This is the first meeting between these teams. Pea Ridge first-year coach Stephen Neal inherits a program that has won 21 games over the past two seasons and last fall advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history. Booneville returns starters at 14 positions, and the junior high hasn't lost a game the past two seasons.
FARMINGTON (1) at Prairie Grove: Farmington has won six of the past 10 in the series, including a 28-12 decision last season. Prairie Grove rebounded with 13 straight wins and played in its first state title game. The Tigers return 10 starters this year, including athletic senior receiver/cornerback Isaac Disney (6-0, 165).
SHILOH CHRISTIAN (28) at Elkins: Shiloh Christian hasn't won a conference title since 2010. The Saints return 16 starters, including senior QB Connor Reece (2,622 yards and 24 TDs in 2015) and explosive running back/linebacker Broc Berus. Elkins hasn't won a non conference game since beating Huntsville Week 3, 2011.

2-4A
Baptist Prep vs. MCGEHEE (6) (Mon.): Baptist Prep first year coach Morgan Cruce unveils his multiple attack. The Eagles focused on fundamentals in August camp, Cruce says. McGehee gets help from 20 sophomores who went 8-1 last year in junior high.

CAC (24) vs. Mayflower (Tue.): Defending 2-4A champion CAC won 11 games last season. The Mustangs return all-conference QB Noah Evans (2,788 yards and 25 TDs in 2015) and receiver Josh Johnson (79 catches, 1,236 yards and seven TDs).

STUTTGART (6) at Arkadelphia: Former Stuttgart assistant Josh Price returns to Arkansas County as head coach. The Ricebirds rely on 14 seniors, and the juniors and sophomores were junior high conference champions. Junior running back Kirk Hughes ran for 1,412 yards and 14 TDs in 10 games last season. Arkadelphia advanced to the semifinals last fall, beating Price's previously undefeated Dardanelle Sand Lizards in the quarterfinals. Badger senior Tajhan McKenzie ran for 902 yards and 13 TDs in 2015.
HEBER SPRINGS (3) at Clinton: These are former conference foes. Panther senior receiver Pierce Mitchum caught 26 passes for 668 yards and six TDs last season. Clinton drops to the 1-3A this fall with senior QB/wingback Kort Weaver and running back Mitchell McNeil.
Carlisle at LONOKE (21): Carlisle went winless last season (forfeited four victories) and first-year coach Mark Uhiren installed the Diamond T in the spring. Lonoke's running game thrives with juniors Xavier Hodge and Michael Hodges.
Riverview at DEWITT (7): Graduation and injuries depleted Riverview's depth at QB and running back. DeWitt won its opening two games last season, and the Dragons look for another fast start with all-conference running back Dee Dee Bradford (747 yards and six TDs in 2015).
SOUTHSIDE BATESVILLE (2) at Cave City: Southside Batesville has won two of the past four in the series (the teams tied in 2012, Cave City won by five points in 2014). Southside Batesville senior QB Josh Millikin passed for 1,056 yards and 11 TDs in nine games last season. Cave City lacks depth up front, but its starting five linemen can develop into a solid group.
EARLE (3) at West Helena: Earle has won consecutive conference titles and promotes almost 20 sophomores who went undefeated last season in junior high. West Helena two-way lineman Damien McDonald should develop into a college prospect.

3-4A
SOUTHSIDE BATESVILLE (2) at Cave City: Southside Batesville has won two of the past four in the series (the teams tied in 2012, Cave City won by five points in 2014). Southside Batesville senior QB Josh Millikin passed for 1,056 yards and 11 TDs in nine games last season. Cave City lacks depth up front, but its starting five linemen can develop into a solid group.
Harrisburg at CROSS COUNTY (14): Harrisburg hasn't beaten Cross County since 2011 (tied in 2012), and lost last season by 36 points. Cross County suspended coach Steve Williams in mid-August and he may not coach this season. Harrisburg promoted assistant Charles Benintende to head coach in the summer.
CEDAR RIDGE (6) at Brookland: Cedar Ridge won seven games a year ago, including a 20-point triumph over Brookland, Brookland's second-ever non conference loss. Senior WB Jordan Bumpous, a two-time All-3-3A selection, beefed up to 175 pounds this off-season after rushing for 764 yards and eight TDs. Coach Danny Brustrom's Timberwolves feature five more 'backs, including junior FB Kyler Northcutt (813 yards and six TDs), and every starter on the offensive line bench presses close to 300 pounds. Senior newcomer Megal Jones (6-2, 250) has emerged at defensive end.
Newport at GOSNELL (4): Gosnell hired former Carlisle coach and Trumann assistant Brandon Barbaree in June. The Pirates return just six starters after winning nine games a year ago. Newport drops to Class 3A this fall after failing to qualify for the playoffs last season for the first time since 1977.
HARDING ACADEMY (7) at Highland: Defending Class 3A champion Harding Academy named Neil Evans as coach in May. Evans, the former coach at Foreman, was hired as defensive coordinator in March and promoted to head coach in May after coach Roddy Mote resigned to become a college assistant. Harding Academy blasted Highland by 37 points last season. Highland all-conference running back/receiver Preston Gurley gained almost 1,000 yards last year.
Jonesboro Westside at MANILA (6): Manila kickstarted its marvelous 2015 campaign with a 14-point win over Jonesboro Westside. But the Warriors seek revenge in 2016 with an improved defense, led by lineman Tyke Taylor (350-pound bench press).
Nettleton at POCAHONTAS (6): Class 4A state title contender Pocahontas upgrades its non-conference schedule in 2016, subbing Riverview and Corning with Class 5A Nettleton and Class 3A traditional-power Osceola. Redskin sophomore QB Devon Adams impressed in summer workouts.
TRUMANN (7) at Hoxie: Trumann broke a three-game losing streak in the series last year with a seven-point win over Hoxie. Trumann all-conference running back Cade Gartman gained more than 1,500 yards last season.

4-4A
Dardanelle at CHARLESTON (3) (Tue.): These teams combined for 46 wins over the past two seasons. Former defensive coordinator Phil Vega takes over as head coach at Dardanelle. Vega's defense held 13 opponents to a TD or less the past two years. Sand Lizard all-state defensive lineman Caden Brown dominated in preseason drills. Athletic Charleston played well in summer team camps.
Booneville at PEA RIDGE (10): This is the first meeting between these teams. Pea Ridge first-year coach Stephen Neal inherits a program that has won 21 games over the past two seasons and last fall advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history. Fountain Lake at POTTSVILLE (6): This is the first meeting between these programs. Pottsville has won 53 games over the past six years, and rely on several stout linemen this fall. Fountain Lake returns just three starters after winning eight games last season and advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
Subiaco Academy at BRINKLEY (4): Subiaco Academy has won just 11 games over the past five seasons, and the Trojans shift to a Spread scheme this fall. Class 2A Brinkley won 15 games the past two years.
Waldron at MANSFIELD (1): Mansfield has won 10 straight over Waldron, including a 22-point victory last season. Former Mena defensive coordinator Craig Bently took over as Mansfield coach on July 11, and the Tigers are loaded with solid linemen, the new coach says. Waldron hasn't won a game since 2011.
GREENLAND (2) at West Fork: Class 4A West Fork has defeated rival Greenland six of the past seven seasons. West Fork's top two QB prospects moved in the spring. Greenland senior Michael McAdoo averaged more than 10 yards per carry last season.

7-4A
JOE T. ROBINSON (8) vs. HS Lakeside (Mon.): Joe T. Robinson (formerly called Pulaski Robinson) features some of the state's more dynamic playmakers with running back Myles Fells and receivers Nathan Page and Koilan Jackson. Fells committed to Navy in the spring, while Jackson committed to Arkansas. Hot Springs Lakeside won the 5A South title last season, its first since 1977.

Fountain Lake returns just three starters after winning eight games last season and advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
Bauxite at H.G. HASKELL (8) (Thurs): Bauxite first-year coach Daryl Patton inherits a strong sophomore class, featuring QB Cameron Landry. The Paul Calley era at Harmony Grove began in January.
