GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 6 Rison at Star City

 
Junior running back Raphael "Rock" Caldwell scored two touchdowns last week in Rison's 19-18 win at 4A rival Fordyce. The Rison defense produced key plays, recovering a fumble and knocking down a two-point conversion pass. Star City junior RB Hosia Rochell (5-9, 205) accounted for 201 yards and four TDs in three quarters of a 53-20 win over DeWitt during Simmons First Kickoff Week. Hootens.com ranks Star City No. 21 in Class 4A.

Hooten's Arkansas Football debuts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on KFSM in Fort Smith/Fayetteville and Today's THV 11 in Little Rock. It airs 11 a.m. Saturdays the remainder of the season. Games scheduled to be featured this week include Rison at Star City, Greenbrier at Mayflower and Arkansas Baptist at Episcopal.

CEDARVILLE (3) at Paris: Cedarville's senior fullback Chase Morton averaged 10.5 yards per carry last week against Pocola, Okla., and the Pirates are brimming with confidence. Paris gave up just 17 points to the Pirates a year ago.
Gentry at CHARLESTON (21): Charleston beat Ozark for the fifth time in a row last week, holding the 4A Hillbillies to 29 yards in the first half while racing to a 35-0 halftime lead. A year ago, Charleston's senior running back Kolby Holmes ran for 140 yards in a 19-point win at Gentry.
GREENLAND (28) at Western Yell County: West Fork shut out Greenland last week, which means a long Friday night for outmanned Western Yell.
Lavaca at BOONEVILLE (17): No. 10 Lavaca, with just six starters returning, jumps up from 12 spots after upsetting Class 4A No. 22 Prairie Grove last week.
GREEN FOREST (13) at Lincoln: Junior running back Ezequiel Hernandez (10-yard TD run and 27-yard FG) led Lincoln to its first victory since 2005 at Westville, Okla. Green Forest beat Lincoln by 36 points a year ago.
Hackett at MANSFIELD (14): Mansfield scored 15 points last week against Waldron, which was ranked last in Class 4A. It generates more offense this week against 2A Hackett.
Mountainburg at WALDRON (3): Mountainburg beat Hackett by three last week, but the Bulldogs snatch this close one.
ELKINS is open.

BARTON (6) at Clarendon: Barton allowed 21 points last week a Woodlawn; it allowed 16 points in its first five games a year ago.
Brinkley at DES ARC (7): Brinkley's last victory on the road was Week 7 of 2008 at England. Des Arc was open last week after Hector cancelled its season.
HAZEN (24) at England: The Lions were shut out three times last season, including a 38-0 loss at Hazen.
ARKANSAS BAPTIST (21) at Episcopal: Episcopal gave up 303 rushing yards Week 1 at Smackover. Arkansas Baptist junior running back Jon Moon ran for two TDs and grabbed an interception against Lutheran.
HARDING ACADEMY (14) at Jessieville: Harding Academy junior quarterback Seth Keese threw three TDs, two to senior receiver Tyler Gentry, in last week's weather-shortened win at Pocahontas. Senior running back Orlando Sierra led Jessieville in its 23-21 victory at 2A Mountain Pine by rushing 18 times for 112 yards and two TDs.
GREENBRIER (1) at Mayflower: Mayflower allowed 35 points in Week 1 at Clarksville; 21 points above their average scoring defense in 2008.
CARLISLE (7) at Riverview: Riverview senior QB Grafton Harrell accounted for six TDs and completed 11 of 13 passes in last week's victory at 2A Marked Tree. Carlisle ran wild in a 44-13 win over England.
HEBER SPRINGS (35) at Rose Bud: Rose Bud's 10-game losing streak started last year with a 52-6 beat down from the Panthers.

3-3A
CAVE CITY (21) at Southside Batesville: The Cavemen ride into Batesville with momentum after snapping a four-game losing streak with last week's victory at Walnut Ridge.
VALLEY VIEW (18) at Corning: Corning and new coach Kenneth Moore start the year with 21 players and a 24-8 loss to 2A East Poinsett County.
EARLE (24) at Marvell: Earle's Michael Bowles and Michael Wilson rushed a combined 31 times for 276 yards last week in a 44-24 win over Conway Christian.
HARRISBURG (45) at Hughes: Harrisburg junior QB Zach Davis completed five of six passes for 155 yards and two TDs in last week's 52-8 blowout of Cross County. McCrory whipped Hughes 55-20 last week.
Mountain View at HOXIE (28): Hoxie was shut out last week at Heber Springs for the first time since the 2007 playoff quarterfinals. Coach Matt Sullivan's first win at Mountain View came on the road at Southside Batesville in Week 1.
Manila at JONESBORO WESTSIDE (6): Six of Manila's nine losses in 2008 were shutouts; one came against the Warriors 50-0. Both of Manila's wins in two years of varsity football came against 2A Rector.
Caruthersville, Mo. at PIGGOTT (8): Piggott junior running back Alex Samples averaged more than 10 yards per carry in last week's loss at Valley View.
Rivercrest at GOSNELL (4): The Colts have not beaten Gosnell since 2003. Rivercrest QBs Demoine Brown (174 yards offense) and Blake Coffman (three of three passing) led Rivercrest to 33-7 rout of Trumann.

DOVER (1) at Atkins: The Red Devils scored six points last week against Pottsville, their lowest output since Week 9, 2007.
GREEN FOREST (13) at Lincoln: Junior running back Ezequiel Hernandez (10-yard TD run and 27-yard FG) led the Wolves to their first win since 2005 at Westville, Okla., ending a 29-game losing streak. Green Forest beat Lincoln by 36 points last year.
LAMAR (2) at Pottsville: Lamar senior quarterback Matt Jones scored three TDs (run, pass and punt return) last week in 47-6 rout of J.C. Westside.
BERRYVILLE (3) at Marshall: The Bobcats beat Berryville by eight points last year for one of their two wins.
Mountain View at HOXIE (28): Coach Matt Sullivan's first win at Mountain View came on the road at Southside Batesville in Week 1. Hoxie was shut out last week at Heber Springs for the first time since the 2007 playoff quarterfinals.
CEDARVILLE (3) at Paris: Paris gave up 17 points to the Pirates a year ago. Cedarville's senior fullback Chase Morton averaged 10.5 yards per carry last week against Pocola, Okla.
Perryville at CLINTON (1): The Perryville defense allowed six points, 169 yards of offense, and recovered five fumbles in last week's win against Bigelow.
Salem at YELLVILLE-SUMMIT (20): The Panthers beat Salem by 15 points in 2008.

5-3A
ARKANSAS BAPTIST (21) at Episcopal: Arkansas Baptist junior running back Jon Moon ran for two TDs and grabbed an interception last week against Lutheran. Episcopal gave up 303 rushing yards Week 1 at Smackover.
BAUXITE (2) at Lafayette County: Lafayette County's senior quarterback Tyler Downs accounted for three TDs in last year's win at Bauxite. Bauxite senior running back Blake Childress ran for two TDs last week against Bald Knob.
Bismarck at HORATIO (2): Bismarck looks to start 2-0 after only beating Horatio last year. Horatio must learn how to win on varsity level (average of 3 wins over past 5 years) after tying Centerpoint 36-36 last week.
MURFREESBORO (14) at Centerpoint: Murfreesboro shut out the Knights last year. It had to rally for a 20-19 win over Gurdon last week when QB Tyler McRae completed 10 of 20 passes for 141 yards and two TDs with zero interceptions.
Mena at FOUNTAIN LAKE (16): Fountain Lake's offense is ready to explode after being held to six points last week against Junction City, the first time the Cobras have scored less than 10 points since Week 2 in 2007.
Glen Rose at HOT SPRINGS (3): Glen Rose will have to win on the road to prevent a 0-2 start.
HARDING ACADEMY (14) at Jessieville: Senior running back Orlando Sierra led Jessieville in their Week 1 victory at Mountain Pine, rushing 18 times for 112 yards and two TDs. Harding Academy junior quarterback Seth Keese threw three TDs, two to senior receiver Tyler Gentry, in last week's win at Pocahontas.
MAGNET COVE (20) at Cutter Morning Star: Magnet Cove scored 20 unanswered points to come back and beat Mount Ida last week.

7-3A
Drew Central at MCGEHEE (35): Drew Central coming off its first shutout victory, blanking Dermott 48-0.
SPRING HILL (7) at Fouke: Fouke escaped Spring Hill a year ago with a two-point victory. Spring Hill served notice last week with a 45-22 win over Lafayette County that it will vie for the 7-2A title in 2009.
MINERAL SPRINGS (8) at Gurdon: Gurdon's last win at home was Week 7 last year against Drew Central.
Harmony Grove at DEQUEEN (16): Harmony Grove's offense struggled Week 1 against Bearden, gaining 146 yards - 76 of those in the fourth quarter.
BAUXITE (2) at Lafayette County: Lafayette County's senior quarterback Tyler Downs accounted for three TDs in last year's win at Bauxite. Bauxite senior running back Blake Childress ran for two TDs last week against Bald Knob.
PARKERS CHAPEL (3) at Hampton: Parkers Chapel put the 7-3A on notice after upsetting 2A Strong 20-6 last week on the road. The Trojans forced three turnovers and stopped Strong on five fourth-down attempts. But Parker's Chapel also managed just 108 yards of offense.
NASHVILLE (21) at Prescott: The Curley Wolf offense scored 56 points in last week's win at Hermitage.
Rison at STAR CITY (1): Junior running back Raphael "Rock" Caldwell scored two TDs in Rison's Week 1 win at Fordyce.
