 Hog RB Ronnie Wingo

FAYETTEVILLE - Junior running back Ronnie Wingo reminded everyone Wednesday at Arkansas' ninth spring practice why he was so touted as a prep running back out of St. Louis.

Wingo popped a 62-yard touchdown, highlighting his 6-2, 231 power with track speed. Wingo’s power impressed offensive coordinator Garrick McGee more than the speed.

"I challenged him,” McGee said. “He was running too light. He wasn’t running as if he was 230 pounds. I think he’s really listened to the coaching. He’s really tried to adjust his running style on the field. I’ve been impressed with him.”

DEEP BALLS
Quarterback Tyler Wilson (Greenwood) threw a perfect 42-yard TD pass to Jarius Wright as the Razorbacks did some midweek scrimmaging, while quarterback Brandon Mitchell threw two beautiful bombs to Joe Adams and Marquel Wade.

NO WINSTON
Cornerback Daris Winston (Helena) was absent a second straight practice.

JOLTING JOE
Jolted by a stroke his freshman year, senior receiver Joe Adams (Central Arkansas Christian) still gets tested and still passes those tests like he excelled catching 50 passes last season.

“Everything is going great,” Adams said.  “I had another check-up after spring break. The doctor said it’s going well.”

With heralded prep returner Marquel Wade on hand this spring, there was speculation if Adams might forsake returning punts to cut down the injury risk to his value as a receiver.

Adams was not among those speculating. “Oh, yeah, I still am going to do punt returns,” he said.  “I’ve got to be No. 1 in the nation next year.”

The Razorbacks are off Thursday and will prep Friday for Saturday’s 10 a.m. scrimmage.

FANTASY LAND
For curious observers, those middle-aged men watching practice on the Frank Broyles Field at Reynolds Razorback Stadium weren’t old lettermen. They were veterans of Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino’s summer fantasy camps. The lettermen will be on hand for their annual reunion the spring game weekend of April 15-16.
